Watermelon Radishes

They don't look very attractive, do they? A friend of mine claimed that this was her favorite vegetable of the season. This same friend is also a vegetarian, so sound food choices are not really her forte, but nonetheless, I felt I needed to give it a try.
As you can see below, they get much more attractive when you cut them open. I tossed them, along with some leeks, with olive oil, salt, and pepper and threw the whole thing into a 425 oven. After about half an hour, I took them out, dumped them onto my plate, and topped with grated Reggiano and a little more olive oil.

So, how did it taste? The leeks were delicious, of course. As for the radishes... They were good, actually. The radish flavor was very mild, perhaps due to the cooking, but they retained a nice crunch. An interesting alternative to the carrot. I'd buy them again...
